Today I bring you one of my favorite casual pairs of shoes that I own:
Melissa Ultragirl Ballet Flats in Pink
On most days I go for the “no make-up” make-up look: just a bit of foundation or bb cream, a light dusting of shimmery powder and a little bit of eye shadow (with which I either help add a bit of sparkle to my eyes or I use a bit of medium brown shadow to define my eyebrows). If I’m feeling a bit more adventurous (e.g. less lazy) I do a cat eye using liquid or gel eyeliner for my eyes (I actually only use mascara at night, because that’s way too much effort for a daytime look, haha). I love that there are so many ways to wear a cat eye:
First of all I hope everyone is having a lovely holiday and if you don’t celebrate (we don’t either, we just go visit family) then at least it’s nice to have the day off, isn’t it? In honor of the Easter bunny and his bright colored friends, I wore a very thematic outfit. Actually, I just have a thing for bright colored clothes…
To start this issue of Favorites let me show you one of my favorite outfits that I’ve ever worn. It symbolizes everything that is Very Veronique: a crazy print (Iron Fist t-shirt), a dose of a fun bright color (or fun tights in general, these are from Asos, the bag is from Pull&Bear and it’s personalized with a little picture of Dracul on the front), unique shoes (Iron Fist “Filthy Landlubber” wedges). Then add a favorite mini skirt (Zara Woman) and a fake leather jacket (Topshop). I wore this outfit to a lunch date and I have to add that the shoes were getting a lot of attention.
In this volume of Favorites we revisit April 2014. April is always a busy month, with the nicer weather there’s more to do and also so many people have their birthdays in April, it’s madness. Speaking of birthdays, this is what I wore to M’s brother’s birthday dinner.
I mentioned in my last post that these are one of my all time favorite earrings. I love them so much. They were an impulse purchase ages ago (well that last post was from 2009!) and I still love them as much today as I did when I bought them!I think the reason why I like them so much is because they remind me of dream-catchers. So they have this dreamy magical feel to them, no? Also I love the combination of silver and gold (when it’s done right).
Some of my favorite photos from December 2009 (I just picked a random month).
Top to bottom: attending an end-of-year party (I was sick but was having a super hair day), a photo from a magazine shoot – it was about tattooed ladies and what we wear at work (I’m calling this “lab chic”), wearing one of my favorite yellow dresses (Mango) and a funny pair of slippers, a holiday greeting card featuring me & my adorable pooch Buddy (bull terriers are the best!), said bully being a bit of an ass (he was caught red-handed-pawed), a style inspiration photo (I still love those wedges and that beautiful cape), another photo-shoot photo, this time portraying my everyday style (those are one of my favorite Freedom for Topshop earrings), and last but not least y’all know I love love. This is one of the sweetest most kitsch photos ever. I mean, who does that? But you gotta love it.
Over a year ago I posted over on my old blog (which is no longer active), a post in homage to Laura Spencer. I wrote about how by a strange coincidence thanks to my lovely sister I came across a vlog series on youtube called The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (a modern adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice). Anyways, as I am now in the midst of working on my thesis, I recently re-watched the entire series and have fallen in love with Laura Spencer (aka Jane Bennet) all over again.
Jane Bennet is a beautiful person, both in character and in appearance, and it’s so easy to like her. But in this particular adaptation, she is a bit more. In other versions she can be a tad two-dimensional, she doesn’t has the liveliness of Lizzie and usually doesn’t undergo any major character development. She just stays and waits until Binngley comes back and proposes to her. However, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries is different. I love how they modernized one of my favorite stories and made the characters and the story itself come to life in a believable way. Anyways, back to Jane. I wanted to share some inspiration photos from her tumblr page because she has once again become my Style Crush!
This one is probably my favorite. The bicycle pin is so precious and the whole look is just adorable and vintage inspired and wonderful. (On a side note: I have fallen in love with pins lately. Such an easy way to add a little something unique to an outfit right?)
Her look is both vintage and modern. I adore her. Really. I love how her clothes are so unique and the styling is really appropriate. She wears little hats or headbands or just has really perfect hair (the braids, swoon). This last picture is Laura Spencer modeling for ModCloth. She’s herself here but still in tune with her character of Jane. It’s another side of Miss Spencer but you can imagine Jane Bennet wearing these clothes as well (especially the 2nd dress – I LOVE the second dress!!).
Another day, another post about Asos. But it’s not just about Asos, it’s more of a funny story actually, about a bit of bad luck and a happy ending. Without further ado, meet the elusive Rosetta:
Sunday night, in the final few hours of the Asos discount, I was half working on my thesis and half online shopping. Perhaps not the best scenario, but hey, that’s life. Anyways, I came across this beauty, a gorgeous luscious vibrant red dress with a nice fit on the bodice, an interesting belt and what draw me in most of all, perfect exaggerated pleats. My goodness, it was love at first sight. Additionally, the price was incredibly low (£19.50). And of course there was only one left, and in my size!! I put it in my basket and did a happy dance. Then, instead of sealing the deal, I continued on shopping and kept adding things to my basket. Now, we get to the part of the story about the bad luck, but part of that is also a bit plain old stupidity.
When I filled my basket, I went on to go pay for my items. And here’s the stupid part, I entered my security code wrong. So of course, the order was unsuccessful, but worst, all the items disappeared from my basket! Gasp! Quickly, I added them all back (luckily all of them were still available) and I went to pay for them a second time. Now here’s the bad luck, I had set the online shopping limit on my card lower than the amount for everything in my basket, so again the order was unsuccessful. At this point I was like should I just buy that dress?
I went to add it in my basket but OH NO it was gone!!! The very last one, someone snapped it up right before my eyes. I was a wreck. I was so sad, you wouldn’t believe. I was like that beautiful red dress is the answer to everything! I need it in my life. So I searched Asos high and low for a replacement dress (and nothing came close, well except this one, that’s basically the same dress, just the price is much higher?!) but I did find some other pretty nice dresses and I fixed the limit on my card and bought a massive amount of dresses. My favorite of the bunch is probably this one (I mean, just look at that print) or this one (because I really wanted a dress from Oasis, although at the time of my order they didn’t have my size so I bought a size up and I’ll just get it fitted or do it myself). I also bought this dress because it was really cheap. But I must say, I laughed through the entire catwalk video – what’s up with that model???
Anyways, I bought loads of dresses (I hope they’re all worth it, I really spent way too much money) but all the while I still kept refreshing the Rosetta dress page to see if by any chance it came back. Well, it didn’t come back on Sunday, but on Monday there it was and in my size. I didn’t hesitate one bit. The order was sent, it’s currently processing and I’m eagerly awaiting its arrival. (Part of my Sunday order has already been sent but sadly only a part of it and I hate it when I have more than one parcel, but whatever, it was a massive amount of dresses so I shouldn’t be surprised.) I’m off now to fantasize about my new dress work on my thesis. I’ll be back in the afternoon to write another post (this time not about Asos, haha) so stay tuned and see you then.
